Background & Context

Google for Education runs programmes such as the Google AI Educator Series (GES) to give teachers free training in AI tools and digital pedagogy. Memoranda of Understanding between state governments and technology companies are a common mechanism for large-scale teacher capacity-building, typically using a 'train-the-trainer' model in which a small group of master trainers is certified first and then trains the wider workforce. Such initiatives connect to India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises teacher training, digital learning and the use of technology in classrooms. Because the cost is borne by the partner company, states can scale training without additional budget outlay.
