Background & Context

Anti-submarine warfare (ASW) involves detecting and neutralising enemy submarines. Mahe-class ASW shallow-water craft are small, agile vessels built for coastal waters where larger warships are less effective. Indigenous construction of such craft supports the Indian Navy's goal of a self-reliant fleet and enhances protection of India's littoral and coastal zones against submarine threats.
