The Union Cabinet on 15 July 2026 approved ₹1.27 lakh crore (₹1,27,500 crore) for India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 (ISM 2.0), a six-year programme, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. ISM 2.0 focuses on subsidising the chip-making supply chain (gases, chemicals and raw materials) and design, and is expected to attract about ₹4 lakh crore in investment and generate semiconductor production worth nearly ₹2 lakh crore.
